Heat generation in RIA, experimental results

Внешний виду установки| Desalination Unit ViewRIA which are generally used for intensificaion of mass-exchange & mechanical processes in liquids might also be used as heat generators. Liquid which is being heated is fed into the rotor chamber, passes through the rotor’ holes and the goes out through the holes in stator. During the rotation holes of rotor and stator periodically combined what generates periodical pulsations of liquid flow. As the result of periodical pulsations impulses of pressure and depressure arise together with turbulence, intensive cavitation, strong shear tensions.

Experiments show heat up process of liquid which passed through the cavitator (RIA). When single passage gives the result which is just slightly observed (less than 1 degree, ºC) while multiple (multi-cycle) passage of liquid might heat the liquid from the room temperature (about 20ºC/68F) to 85ºC/185F.

Most efficient range where the cavitator heats up the liquid is between 50 and 70ºC.

Heating mechanism in cavitator

There are two general mechanisms of liquids heating:

  • friction of liquid with cavitator parts. As experiments show this mechanism brings only a small part of heating.
  • Cavitation process. Acoustic cavitation is way of sound-wave energy concentration from low density to high-density. Cavitation generates cavitas with local temperature up to 1000ºC/1832F.
